In Progress Cover: Burning Up (Madonna)
This is the third and final cover performed in New York.
You saw the first two covers, in 3 Hr. window- the sessions @ complete Music Studios in Brooklyn. This one, I decided around the beginning of the year, would go on the list for the covers project. This is an ongoing project.
In this post, you’ll find links to the first teaser of the cover. It’s just a snippet but it’s a start. It’ll give you the gist of what I intend to do with it.
Also. A kind of teaser video. This one falls into about three series, covers, sessions and something more like a music video. Although, I don’t know what that title yang title would go by just yet.
I want to do something different with this one. The collage is a mix of ideas.
It’s a hard rock version. It’s worth noting that madonna took an her once just pop song and reinvented it with a harder rock feel on her Rebel Heart tour. It’s a song I grew up listening to as a small child as well. My Mother would play madonna albums on the way to school. She would love this version and the accompanying video. She liked some heavier rock music too. She'll always be my biggest fan. This is for you and all of you as well. Enjoy!

THE INTRO INVOCATION VIDEO
COMING SOON...
It was a Saturday evening when I walked onto the rooftop deck in The East Village. Armed with a jungle of audio cables and my keytar in hand, I was ready to rock. I had a set list of several tracks with jams set to weave through each of them. I planned to start the set with something new called Chill Starter: A Rainy Day in New York City. However, The God of Thunder had other plans for my set that evening. It began to rain. Well, what's an artist to do? So, I just improvised. I played for the rain instead. Hence, the first piece you'll see and hear, which is appropriately entitled, Play For The Rain.
In preparing for the rooftop set, I created a dynamic set list. I revisited several older numbers like Beyond The Jungle and Ocean Alt Version. Also, new songs included So How Ya' Doin'? (Coming Soon) and A Song For My Friend, John. I had six days to put the song collection together and enjoyed the process of building that set list. Although, only a small degree of those songs made it up to the roof that evening, they will come back into play in a future set.
So look out for them later on down the road.
Several songs were born in South Florida. They continued their life span in New York.
Some were crafted on the train to the city. Others were pieced together while journeying through the boroughs.
They were fine tuned in makeshift studios, ie hotel rooms.

MY STORY

Andrew Ackerman is a multi-media artist creating drawings, paintings, songs, poems, performances, and immersive projects. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he is currently based in West Palm Beach, Florida. He received his B.F.A in Studio Art with a concentration in Painting from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.
His recent works has been featured in exhibition at The Flatiron Project Space, The Photoville Festival in Brooklyn Bridge Park, Suite 206, The GalleRe at Resource Depot, and Oolite Arts. He has performed at ArtServe, The Williamsburg Center for Music, and on a rooftop in New York City. His work has been featured in WeMerge Magazine, Metro-Mix City Link Magazine, and SVA ContinuEd.

PAINTINGS
My paintings deal with themes of social identity, alienation, equality and spiritual reflection. Sociopolitical messages and personal attitudes are conveyed through a fusion of Pop Art, Abstract Expressionism and calligraphic inspired elements.
In the series, Alien Love, I depict a race of alien beings with an alien language, called Ackerman code, an intermix of numbers, words and symbols. Originally, a commentary for LGBTQ+ rights and freedoms, the narrative has grown to include any social group which has been alienated in society.
Working primarily in acrylics, I begin my paintings with black or white backgrounds, representing the boundaries which exist between society and the individual. Brightly painted figures in the foreground symbolize values of personal freedom and expression.
The black and white labels float through these environments as reminders of social adherence and personal preference.
My paintings become a process of breaking through barriers, solving problems and creating balance and harmony.
SONGS
I craft my own brand of rock music, employing hard edged raspy vocals and luxurious glam-infused vocals. My ambient electronic soundscapes represent the alternate domain of my musical repertoire. Each piece is an invitation into an immersive experience. Place a pair of headphones upon your head for full immersion and the journey begins.
PERFORMANCES
My performances consist of spoken word and sound. Video and live performance are my vehicles for presenting the work. These narrative driven pieces become an integral part of my immersive experience projects.
IMMERSIVE PROJECTS
My immersive projects are the culmination of the different facets of my work. Utilizing painting, sound, video, performance and installation, I transform a space into an alien world. If not a physical space, then the world inside the video screen, for an immersive video experience. I explore the connection between artist and audience. As I guide you through my world, dissolving boundaries along the way, you become experiencer and eventually participant in the unfolding events of the work.
